But with the time and willingness to at least try,I can promise you from personal experience that it doesn’t have to be.Ĭommunication is a powerful tool,it’s even been described as "the lifeblood of any healthy relationship".īut first, you gotta know HOW to do it. The thing is,a struggle like this can be a hold back to any kind of relationship that has the potential to thrive and flourish. And if you happen to be an introvert in a sea of loud voices, you likely know what it’s like to be drowned out a lot of the times. And even when I did,it wasn’t being done effectively (believe me,there’s a huge difference).ĭid it seem like I took a peek inside your head while you were reading this? Were you nodding along mentally? That’s because I was talking, but never Communicating. When I eventually did find my voice, the confidence was growing, but somehow it’s like I still wasn’t being heard. I yielded to this and settled with the expectation that this is obviously just how life goes, even if it’s frustrating. Or worse yet,on their side but never mine. Somehow,it seemed like the needs still weren’t being met on either side.

I’d have conversation after conversation with friends, family members or even coworkers. Come chat some Patwa wid me! =)ĭo you want to truly communicate with someone? Is there someone in your life who you’re looking to reach on a more personal level? Or perhaps you’re looking to be more open about yourself but you just don’t know how. Is it that coworker that you know is really funny but you just can’t get what they’re saying? Or perhaps you plan on traveling here someday and wanna be able to understand what the person trying to sell you something is saying (because believe me,someone will be trying to sell you something ). Learn from a real native and let’s have fun! Maybe you’ve always wondered what that one Jamaican song you really like but can’t understand, said. And the Patwa Hollywood tries to sell you in their movies? Don’t buy it. Truth is,unless you’re a yardie, related to them, or are in some way familiar enough with the dialect,it’s hardly something you can just readily pick up on.

It’s a colorful, vibrant and incredibly expressive language filled with a ton load of love and gut busting laughter! IF you understand it that is. Jamaican Patwa (Patois) or Creole,is in the Heart and Soul of every Jamaican,or as we call each other, 'Yardie'.
